In the high country fog can get trapped behind even the smallest of ridges. Cripple Creek, Colorado, at over 10,000 feet in elevation, lies just east of such a ridge. Once the "Greatest Gold Camp in the World", Cripple Creek is now more famous for its casinos then for its gold mines.
