You don't have to go far to take a good photograph. Just off my front porch is a holly bush that I have occasionally photographed. In the winter its green leaves turn to a red or brown color and some of the stems maintain a bright red hue. I seldom do close-up or macro work but after a snowfall this plant begged for such a shot. Using an older Sony fixed lens camera which has a macro setting I was able to capture the intricate veins and spiny edges of the leaf as well as the crystalline appearance of the melting snow. Such details are often unnoticed by the casual viewer but this kind of photography reveals them well.
